Rash around Mouth: Causes, Redness, Eczema, Lips, Bumps, Toddler, Corners, Pictures, Treatment

What causes rash around mouth? The skin found around and inside the mouth is usually thinner than the rest of the body skin. This skin also lacks the natural moisturizing ability because there are no sebaceous glands on it. Furthermore it lacks the skin pigment, melanin, which provides protection against ultraviolet (UV) light. Due to all these, it has been found that a rash can occur around the mouth from physical injury, dryness and intense sunlight. There are certain types of rash around the mouth that only affects the skin and never involves the lips itself.

Perioral dermatitis

The term perioral dermatitis literally means inflammation of the skin (dermatitis) around the mouth (perioral). Although there are many skin conditions that can affect this area and cause skin inflammation, the term perioral dermatitis usually refers to a specific skin disorder. It refers to a chronic condition where there is pronounced redness in the affected area that resembles rosacea.
The exact cause of perioral dermatitis is not known but the condition has been associated with long term use of steroid creams. This may not be the cause of perioral dermatitis but rather the trigger of the condition. Perioral dermatitis affects about 1 in 100 people in the United States. The condition is often seen among women between the ages of 20 to 45 years old. Men and children are very rarely affected.
Symptoms of rash around mouth
A rash rough the mouth can be in form of red bumps around the mouth. The bumps may be scaly in appearance. The bumps can also appear in the area under the eyes, on the forehead, and on the chin. These small bumps can contain pus or fluids and may resemble acne.
You may also experience symptoms such as burning or itching, especially as the rash worsens.
Symptoms include:

  • Intense itching
  • Redness accompanied by dry, blistering
  • Sometimes peeling and cracking on the corners of mouth will occur
  • Bleeding if severe

These are usually the common symptoms but an infection would cause other symptoms such as severe pain, heat (burning), fever and pus.

Rash around Mouth Causes

The skin around the mouth is much thinner and delicate than most places on the body. It also lacks the natural moisturizing ability adequately. Rashes can occur around the mouth due to physical injury, dryness and intense sunlight.
There are many things that cause a rash around your mouth. Ranging from physical injury, to dryness to intense sunlight, you can develop a rash which may sometimes appear with redness. Sometimes this rash may extend on to the lip surface but there are certain types of rash around the mouth that only affects the skin and never involves the lips itself.

Causes of rashes around the mouth

The following are causes of rash around mouth of most adults:

  1. Contact dermatitis

Contact dermatitis is a skin condition that causes inflammation that occurs when some substances makes contact with the skin. They appears as itchy red bumps around mouth that are sometimes painful and samples of these contact dermatitis are certain makeup products, poison ivy, or some skin care products.

  1. Eczema

This is also a skin condition that causes both irritation and inflammation around your mouth and can also cause a rash to appear on your feet, face, knees, and hands. The rash is characterized by itching, redness, and swelling, and will appear thick and flaky. There are several factors that trigger up appearances of rash around mouth such as extreme temperatures, stress, and certain chemicals that may be found in the soaps you use, etc.

  1. Hives

This skin condition around the mouth is triggered by allergic reaction due to food we eat or medication. Another trigger of hives is stress. If the rash is on your lips, it is called angioedema, which is like hives.

  1. Perioral dermatitis

These skin problems around the mouth usually affect women in most occasions and it is causes a group of small red bumps to appear around your mouth. The rash can also spread to your upper lip, chin, and cheeks, making the areas of the skin very flaky and dry. This medical condition happens to people with oily faces and can be caused by using certain lotions and creams containing strong chemicals.

  1. Chemical Burns

It can occur when a strong chemical touches your skin. Chemicals that can cause burns are usually strong acids or strong bases. A chemical burn may cause redness, pain, or blisters on the skin. These chemicals may be from the products we use.

  1. Canker Sores

They usually appear on the tongue or cheeks, on the inside lips, at the base of the gums, or on the soft palate. You may have just one sore, or there may be several in a cluster. Canker sores can be painful. But they usually heal on their own and do not need medical treatment.

Redness around Mouth

Redness around mouth and lips can be caused by a number of things. This condition can cause you a lot of discomfort as the appearance of the mouth is not always pleasing. According to Health Hype, contact dermatitis is an inflammatory skin condition that occurs after exposure to irritants or allergens in the environment. The irritants or allergens trigger an allergic reaction leading to damage of skin around the mouth.  This can be visible with redness that is associated with a rash around mouth.
Common irritants that can cause redness around lips include cleaning soaps and detergents, lip piercing jewelry, cosmetic products and chemicals that cause burning in skin.
Allergic contact cheilitis of the lips
This is a form of contact dermatitis that mostly affects the lips. It is commonly caused by fragrance and preservatives in lipsticks and dental care products including toothpastes, mouthwash, dental floss and toothpicks, etc.
Metals contained in dental restorations, orthodontic devices, lip cosmetic cases, habitual sucking of metal objects, etc. can cause rash around mouth.
Also, certain foods and medications we use can cause an appearance of redness around mouth due to irritation caused by them to people who are sensitive.
Seborrheic dermatitis
Seborrhea affects common areas like the scalp, underarms, under breasts, in groin, on legs. Though uncommon it can also affect the lips too. People with oily skin are also liable to perioral dermatitis. Doctors don’t know the exact cause of seborrhea. However the following are factors thought to be the reasons for its occurrence.

  • Certain medical or skin conditions like acne, Parkinson’s disease, rosacea, psoriasis
  • Cold and dry weather
  • Human yeast
  • Stress or depression

Dryness and redness around mouth
Dry and burning red skin around the lips can be horrible especially it causes itching. Certain conditions can lead to dry lip skin to the degree that they begin to form cracks. The conditions may be internal or triggered by external environmental factors such as cold temperature.
One of the skin conditions responsible for dryness and redness around lips include perioral dermatitis. Lip lickers dermatitis is also associated with dryness around the areas nearer the lips. Other factors that contribute to drying out of lips are strong cold winds, cosmetic facial or lip products with allergens, preservatives and dehydrating ingredients.

Rash around Mouth Toddler

Most of the time if your child has good overall health and doesn’t exhibit any symptoms other than the rash, it is fine to observe his rash for several days before contacting the doctor. In many cases, the rash will simply disappear over time without any need for treatment. Rash around toddlers’ mouth are usually mild and can be treated and prevented by simple measures.
Common Causes of Rash around Toddlers’ Mouth
You should visit the doctor if your child’s rash is joined by other symptoms such as vomiting, breathing difficulties, high fever or a reduction in overall health accompanied by behavioral changes. Otherwise, your child can get a rash around mouth from the following reasons.

  1. Drool Rash

This is when your toddler experiences irritation and redness on his face due to excessive drool and it most commonly occurs on the face. Most babies will have drool rash at some point or another and the most common time for this to happen is while teething. It is caused by the constant moisture affecting sensitive skin when it is rubbed on soft surfaces (such as pillows or shoulders) due to the friction and irritation.
In some cases drool rash will become infected leading to infant impetigo which is a contagious bacterial infection indicated by honey or yellow colored crusting on the rash’s surface and possible blistering.

  1. Oral Thrush

Oral thrush is one of the most common causes of a rash around a toddler’s mouth and this is especially true in infants under six months of age. Oral thrush occurs when the yeast Candida albicans overgrows. This yeast naturally occurs within the digestive tract and mouth but the immune system usually controls its growth. As infants don’t have a fully developed immune system yet, oral thrush is more common in them. The risk of oral thrush can increase after taking certain antibiotics or if your child has lung disease or asthma.
In most cases the symptoms of oral thrush in a baby include cracked skin on the corners of the mouth. He might also have thick, white patches which resemble cottage cheese on his tongue, inside cheeks, and lips. When you attempt to scrape off the white patches, you will notice red tissue which bleeds easily. The white patches can’t be wiped away and can increase in number. Some babies with oral thrush won’t experience any discomfort while others will be sore and choose not to eat.

  1. Hand Foot and Mouth Disease

Hand, foot and mouth disease causes sore rash around mouth as well as on the feet and hands. It will also occasionally affect the legs and buttocks. Although the sores can be painful, the illness won’t usually last for more than a week. It most commonly occurs in children and especially during the fall and summer.
Hand, foot and mouth disease is the effect of the enterovirus which can easily spread via sneezing or coughing. It can also spread via infected stools and because of these factors it will frequently affect a community. In most cases it will have an incubation period of between three and six days which is the amount of time it takes for a person to display symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease.

  1. Impetigo

Impetigo is an infection of the skin that will initially appear as red, itchy sores resembling blisters but eventually become honey-colored crusts. It is most common in young children who scratch existing sores or rashes. Impetigo is treated with antibiotics.

  1. Cold Sores

Cold sores appear as purple or red sores on the lips or their outer edges. These are the result of sharing utensils with or kissing infected adults.

  1. Chickenpox

Chickenpox is usually rare in infants as they are still protected by their mothers’ antibodies. The symptoms of this condition include blisters or sores around the mouth as well as other areas of the body.

  1. Strep Throat

Strep throat is indicated by a red or sore throat and white patches on the throat or tonsils in addition to a rash on other areas of the body. Rash around mouth can cause discomforts due to the sensitivity of skin around the lip including the lip border or vermilion.

Rash on upper Lip

There are several conditions that may cause a rash around mouth. We have talked about all these conditions in this context. However, you may develop a rash just on the upper lip and not on the lower lip. In this case, for the conditions above, some are involved and others are not. For example, for perioral dermatitis is a common skin rash around the mouth. Perioral means ‘around the mouth’ and dermatitis refers to inflammation of the skin. Therefore, this condition cannot affect only the upper lips.
Therefore, for the upper lips, we are all encouraged to put all sorts of creams and other stuff on our faces to make us look younger, fresher and more appealing. Unfortunately, in some cases the skin rebels and you can end up looking worse than you did before. A vicious cycle can also develop in people who use steroid creams to treat another condition, such as eczema. Also, injury, dryness, and allergy can be the cause of rash on upper lips. These triggers can also affect the lower lip as well.

Redness around Corners of Mouth

As the weather turns cold, chapped and dry lips appear exposure to the dry air, cold and wind. After a few days of especially chapped lips, you may notice redness in the corners of your mouth. Like chapped lips, this redness may burn, crack or bleed.
Environmental conditions, such as wind, dry air and too much sun exposure, can cause chapped lips, which leave redness around corners of your mouth. Licking your lips can also worsen then problem. A deficiency in iron or riboflavin can also cause your lips to chap and the edges of your mouth to redden. Redness in around the mouth may also be a side effect of a new medication, especially an oral retinoid medication you may be taking for acne or another skin condition.

Rash around mouth Treatment

If you know what is actually causing the rash to develop on your lips, treatment can be as easy as eliminating what leads to that rash. Some of the treatment options for symptomatic lip rashes include.

  1. Use of corticosteroid

Before applying corticosteroid creams or injection, you need to consult a physician first. Depending on severity of the symptoms, your physician will examine your lips and look into the symptoms to determine how to administer this treatment.

  1. Pain relievers

Pain relievers are necessary when accompanying symptoms become severe like after sun poisoning or have cold sores.

  1. Antihistamines

These medicines are used in cases of rashes where an allergic reaction is involved. Treatment is prioritized in accordance with symptoms. Use of antihistamines is considered a measure for adverse reactions.
How to prevent recurrent rash around mouth
Here are some of the specific means to get rid of rashes on your lips that come and go.

  1. Use a chemical-free lip balm

Some people with lip licking habit can benefit from lip balm, once they have found a way out of lip licking. Keep in mind that if you land on the wrong lip balm, you may end up regretting. However, if you want to be safer, go for oil-based lip balm. Dermatologists also recommend the non-flavored lip products.
When you are going out, use a wide-brim cap or ask your healthcare provider for a lip balm sunscreen cream to apply on the lips.

  1. Avoid cold or extremely hot conditions

Another simple but best preventive measure is to aim at protecting your lips by avoiding the cold out there if you have to be outdoors. Secondly, during hot sunny conditions, use a deep moisturizer to lock in moisture around lips.

  1. Keep off lip dryness aggravators

When the symptoms become severe especially with formation of thick patches, cracking and painful feeling, avoid:

  • Smoke and smoking itself
  • Direct sun heat on your face
  • Applying lip cosmetic. For instance lip gloss, lipstick, mascara, etc.
  • Licking your lips or lip biting
  • Scratching and picking your lips
  • If there is bleeding or weeping from the lip and corner of mouth, please see your health care provider.
  1. Keep off triggers

You can successfully achieve this if you learn to analyze most products you have been using recently, including changes you have made to the list of cosmetics. This will enable you eliminate the more likely triggers one by one with time. If you get stuck on the way or confuse, and are unable to figure out, consult a dermatologist for more helpful tips on avoidance of unfavorable triggers.
Natural treatment remedies for rash around mouth

Natural methods in most circumstances are meant for mild symptom-relieving. Remedies can also be an alternative treatment but do not work for certain individuals. The following are some of the common methods used to deal with redness around the lips. For some procedures to work, the causes must be clearly established. This basically calls for one to see a physician before trying them out.

  1. Petroleum jelly

Applying a scent-free, alcohol-free and non-flavored petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline) is the easiest way to prevent and treat dryness and redness from lip licker’s dermatitis. This ensures that moisture remains locked in skin hence preventing your lips from dehydration. Individuals suffering from lip licker’s dermatitis can use this remedy to deal with dryness around the lips.

  1. Cool washing the affected area

Washing should be gentle and be done with running water. For best results individuals are advised to avoid chlorinated or water treated with chemicals.

  1. Tea tree oil

As another natural remedy, tea tree oil helps in fighting infections especially bacterial infection strains such as staph that cause rash around mouth. The use of this remedy will not treat conditions like contact dermatitis but is good because it helps avoid the symptoms from becoming worse.

Itchy Skin at Night: in Bed, no Rash, with Bumps, on Legs, Causes, Get Rid, Treatment

Do you experience itchy skin at night? This condition of nighttime itching of the skin can also be described as nocturnal pruritus. The problem can be severe enough to disrupt sleep regularly. Things that cause this problem can range from natural causes to more serious health concerns. In some cases, the itchiness will just last for a short time and go away. However, there are other conditions the problem will only go away with treatment.

Itchy Skin at Night

You may experience this problem at night either while in the bed or generally even when not in bed. Although a wide variety of dermatological conditions and illnesses can cause nighttime itching of the skin, most often the condition is due to abnormally dry skin. If itchy skin is chronic or accompanied by a rash, inflammation or scales, the cause may be an underlying illness and treatment should be sought from a dermatologist.

Causes of itchy skin at night

As we said above, causes of this condition may range from natural issues to more health complications. We will look at both of the cases.

  1. Natural causes

For most people, natural mechanisms could be behind nighttime itch. Your body’s natural circadian rhythms, or daily cycles, influence skin functions like temperature regulation, fluid balance, and barrier protection. These functions change at night. For example, your body temperature and the blood flow to your skin both increase in the evening, warming your skin. A rise in skin temperature can make you feel itchy.
When itchiness hits during the day, work and other activities distract you from the annoying sensation. At night there are fewer distractions, which can make the itch feel even more intense.
Bedbugs
These are small, blood-feeding insects that can infest homes and hotels. Mattresses are a favorite hiding spot for bedbugs and their eggs. At night, the insects bite and feed on their human hosts. Even clean and spotless homes can house bedbugs, since the tiny insects move freely through walls and pipes. According to the Harvard School of Public Health, bedbugs leave behind a skin lesion similar to that of a mosquito bite.
Allergic Dermatitis
Allergic dermatitis, or contact dermatitis, is caused when a person comes in contact with irritating lotion, soap, chemicals, plants or even jewelry. Besides causing itchy skin at night, the condition can be very unsightly, with bumps, scabs and oozing. Laundry detergent or bleach used to wash sheets and linens can also be the source of the irritant. It is possible for a person to suddenly develop an allergy to a certain chemical, even though it has been used numerous times in the past.

  1. Health-related causes

Along with your body’s natural circadian rhythms, a number of different health conditions can cause itchy skin to become worse at night. These include:

  • skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis (eczema), psoriasis, and hives
  • bugs like scabies, lice, bed bugs, and pinworms
  • kidney or liver disease
  • iron deficiency anemia
  • thyroid problems
  • psychological conditions such as stress, depression, and schizophrenia
  • restless legs syndrome
  • cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma
  • nerve disorders, such as multiple sclerosis, shingles, and diabetes
  • allergic reactions to substances like chemicals, drugs, foods, or cosmetics
  • pregnancy

Itching at Night in Bed

People scratch a small itch maybe a dozen times a day unconsciously, but during the night is when they realize how serious it can be. It may be a temporary reaction to a number of mild causes, or it may be a signal an underlying health issue. While you are in your bed there are things that may cause you to cut short your sleep due to repeated itching.
As with many conditions and illnesses, it seems to become worse at night. You may think it is dry skin, especially if it occurs mainly in the cold winter months. Or you may attribute it to your laundry detergent, new body soap, parasites, or even stress. Before you rush to the doctor or pharmacy for some medication, it is important you know what is causing you the itchy skin at night in bed.

  1. Bed Clothes and Linen

Your personal items could be causing your nighttime itching due to irritants and even parasites. Changes in your body processes can cause you to develop an allergen to laundry soaps, body soaps, and shampoos, even if you have been using the same brand for years with no negative reactions. It could also be associated with a dust mite allergy. A change in your system can also impact the tolerance of certain components of your jewelry.

  1. Decreased Stimulation

While in bed, our energy and stimulus levels decrease, which may make us more conscious of issues such as itchiness, even the most mild of the condition. If you suffer from a severe skin condition, it can disturb your sleep cycle to the point of waking you up in the night.

  1. Cardiac rhythm

Your internal clock, also known as circadian rhythm, refers to the biological processes your body goes through over a 24-hour period. These physical, mental, and behavioral changes in the system respond to your day (light) and night (dark) environments. Nocturnal itching episodes may be associated with these changes, although no definite factor has been identified.
Cytokine and prostaglandin can cause the itching sensation in an unbalanced circadian rhythm as these substances produced by cells affect inflammation outcome.

  1. Skin temperature

When skin temperature rises at night, this may stimulate the itch facilitator levels in our skin. When corticosteroid body levels tend to decrease at night, it increases symptoms of an inflammatory skin disorder. Water loss through the skin intensifies at nighttime through sweat and urine hence causing itchy skin at night in bed.

  • Parasympathetic activity is known as the “rest and digest” portion of our autonomic nervous system. In this state of normal control, your body is in a relaxed condition, and at night, it increases and may stimulate itching.
  • Natural pain-relieving catalysts in our system rise in response to the darkness with a damaged circadian rhythm. A lessened pain increases our sense of itchiness.

Itchy Skin at Night no Rash

Itchy skin is a common symptom and it can be caused by a number of different conditions we have stated above. In most cases, as you scratch your itchy skin while in bed, you may end up with some rashes either du to contact allergies or due to persistent irritation of the skin through scratch. Moreover, even insect bites will leave you either with a bump on the site or a rash. However, there is some itching of the skin at night that is not associated by any rash as a symptom.
An itchy skin with no rash means that the problem is not on the skin but an underlying condition is the one causing the itchiness. This is a clear indication that you should meet your doctor about these symptoms. In fact, many causes of itching require an in-person examination and testing.
In many cases, if you experience a nighttime itching without a rash you should not hesitate to look for assistance. For example, people with severe allergic reactions or kidney disease can have itching without rash along with one or more of those symptoms. This is a condition that is chronic hence treatment should be started immediately.

Itchy Skin at Night with Bumps

Yes, itching of the skin is mostly associated with bumps or a rash. This is usually common where the only the ski is undergoing the suffering without an underlying condition. If you are not feeling sick otherwise, chances are it is nothing to worry about and will clear up on its own. Treating it with over-the-counter hydrocortisone itch relief cream until it goes away may be sufficient. But if it lasts for over two weeks, or goes away and comes back or if your itch cream is not bringing you relief, it’s a good idea to visit your dermatologist as you might need more targeted medication to clear things up.
Common causes of nighttime itchy skin with bumps

  1. Allergic reactions to personal care products

Your cosmetics, skincare, haircare, and even your laundry detergent are found here. We come into contact with so many potential allergens every day, that there are numerous possibilities for your skin to become irritated. People tend to be allergic to preservatives, and some are more allergenic than others. See if you can find a common thread in the products you use, and if it’s just one thing, stop using it.

  1. Eczema

Eczema is a general term that’s used to describe many different types of inflammation of the skin, or dermatitis, and can appear anywhere on the body, though it’s most commonly found in the elbow creases or behind the knees. The rash can look very different from person-to-person, but it’s usually intensely itchy, red, and dry.

  1. Keratosis pilaris

Also called chicken skin or KP, this common skin condition is a variant of eczema. It causes skin cells to cluster around hair follicles, trapping the hair underneath and causing a raised itchy skin at night with bump. KP typically shows up on the backs of the arms and thighs in large patches of rough, raised skin. However, it is not always itchy, but it can be. Depending on the person’s skin tone, these bumps are usually red or brown. It’s chronic, but can be managed with products that include chemical exfoliators like glycolic acid and lactic acid.

  1. Heat rash

This causes itchy red bumps that may also feel prickly and tingle, and usually happens around the neck or other areas where sweat becomes trapped beneath clogged pores. Heat rash can appear in different forms, sometimes it is red bumps, but sometimes it is tiny clear blisters. The itchy skin at night with rash is common in hot, humid weather, and usually goes away on its own once the skin is cooled down.

  1. Allergic reactions to food or medicine

Eating a food or medicine you’re allergic to can cause you to break out in hives, an itchy red rash at night that appears as welts. The difference with this type of allergy is that the rash can appear anywhere on your body, versus a skin irritant that causes a rash right where it touched you. Since allergies to foods and medications can be extremely dangerous, it is important to get checked out if you have hives or in some way can connect somethings you ingested to a rash.

How to Get Rid of Itchy Skin at Night

Simple ways for itchy skin relief include wearing loose cotton clothes especially to bed, applying a moisturizer or skin lotion to the skin to keep it hydrated, and avoid excess heat and humidity that causes sweating and aggravates itchiness.
Keep in mind that while many of these home remedies are known to help relieve itching, not all of these have been tested scientifically and in some cases, results may vary greatly.

  1. Baking Soda

This is the most common home remedy for itchy skin at night as well as skin rashes. Baking soda has a soothing effect due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Plus, it acts as a natural acid neutralizer that helps relieve itching.
Add one cup of baking soda to a bathtub filled with cool water. Stir it well to distribute the baking soda thoroughly. Soak in this water for about half an hour. Pat yourself dry instead of rubbing the skin with a towel. Do this once daily.

  1. Colloidal Oatmeal

Colloidal oatmeal helps soothe and comfort itchy skin. It contains anti-irritating, anti-inflammatory and soothing properties that provide instant relief from itching.
Add one to two cups of colloidal oatmeal to a bathtub filled with lukewarm water. Soak in this water for at least 15 to 20 minutes. Never use hot water as it may irritate your skin more. You can take an oatmeal bath up to three times a day, depending on the severity of your condition.

  1. Cool Water

The sensations of both cold and itching travel along the same nerve fibers in the body, so applying cool water on the affected itchy skin at night can bring instant relief from itchiness. There are many ways to use cool water for itchy skin.

  1. Lemon

People have used lemon to treat itchy skin for ages. Lemon contains citric and acetic acids, which have great antiseptic, anesthetic, anti-inflammatory and anti-irritating properties. Take lemon juice and apply to the affected area using a cotton ball and let it dry for some time before washing it off.
Note: This remedy is not suitable for those who have sensitive skin.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has antiseptic, anti-itching, antifungal and antibacterial properties that help get rid of itching. Add two to three cups of apple cider vinegar to lukewarm bath water. Soak in this water for 15 to 30 minutes. Then pat dry your skin and apply a light moisturizer. Do this daily.
To treat more localized itchy skin at night, apply apple cider vinegar on the affected areas using a cotton ball. Leave it on for half an hour and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.

  1. Aloe Vera

This contains excellent anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal properties. Plus, it contains vitamin E that helps keep the skin moisturized and in turn reduces itching.
Extract the gel from one aloe vera leaf. Apply the gel on the affected area. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Follow this simple remedy once daily.

  1. Basil

Basil is a useful herb for getting rid of itchy skin. Basil contains a high amount of eugenol, a potent essential oil and topical anesthetic. Plus, it has compounds called camphor and thymol that effectively combat itching.
Add one tablespoon of dried basil leaves to two cups of boiling water. Cover the pan for a few minutes. Allow the mixture to cool and then apply it on the affected area using a cotton cloth. Save the remaining solution in a jar for later use. Repeat the process as often as necessary.

Best Treatment for Itchy Skin at Night

If a condition like a nerve disorder or restless legs syndrome is causing the itch, see your doctor to get it treated. To treat nighttime itch yourself, you can try an over-the-counter or prescription medicine. Some of these medicines relieve just the itch. Others help you sleep.

  • Older antihistamines relieve the itch and make you sleepy.
  • Newer antihistamines, such as fexofenadine (Allegra) or cetirizine (Zyrtec), are also helpful and may be taken at night or during the day.
  • Steroid creams stop the itch at the source.
  • Antidepressants like mirtazapine (Remeron) and doxepin (Silenor) have an anti-itch and sedative effect.

Alternative treatments for itchy skin at night
To help you sleep, you could try melatonin, which comes in an over-the-counter supplement. This natural hormone helps regulate sleep. When you take it nightly, it has a sedative effect that can help you sleep through the itch.
Lifestyle changes
If stress aggravates your skin, try techniques like meditation, yoga, or progressive muscle relaxation to calm your mind. You can also meet with a therapist for cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). This program helps reverse some of the harmful thoughts and actions that aggravate your stress.
Things to Avoid
What not to do if you have itchy skin at night

  • If your skin itches at night, here are a few triggers to avoid:
  • Don’t go to bed in anything itchy. Wear pajamas made from soft, natural fibers, like cotton or silk.
  • Keep the temperature in your room cool — around 60 to 65°F. Overheating can make you itch.
  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol before bed. They widen blood vessels and send more blood to warm your skin.
  • Don’t use any cosmetics, perfumed creams, scented soaps, or other products that might irritate your skin.
  • Don’t scratch! You’ll irritate your skin even more. Keep your fingernails short in case you do feel the urge to scratch at night.

You can try to resolve the itchy skin at night in your home with several remedies and prevent a reoccurrence.

  1. Soak at Night

Bathe in the evening to remove the day’s dead skin cells, dirt, and sweat. Keep in mind very hot water can irritate and dry out the skin. Use warm water and spend 15 minutes or less in the shower or bath.

  1. Use Mild Soaps

Use unscented soaps, especially at night. Antibacterial and perfume-infused soaps can draw the moisture from your skin and cause itchiness.

  1. Change the Sheets

Change your sheets frequently. If you cannot alternate bed linen daily, hang your bedding in direct sunlight to remove dust mites and any bacteria and dead skin cells.

  1. Flip the Mattress

Use a mattress protector or flip mattress weekly as it may be home to millions of microscopic organisms. Replace the mattress when you can to avoid itchy skin at night.

  1. Call Pest Control

Have a pest control agent inspect for infestations. There may be an issue with bedbugs, body lice, fleas, or scabies mites. You can still feel the effects from these parasites without direct contact as they attach to clothing, linens, and mattresses.

  1. Ventilate the Room

Sleep in a cool well-ventilated room. This will reduce body temperature and sweating, which can stimulate itchy dryness. Try keeping the bedroom heat down by opening a window, turning on a fan, or keeping the air conditioner on.

  1. Use Lightweight Fabrics

Wear light cotton sleepwear and use light blankets. As your body temperature rises, so does the intensity of the itchy skin at night.

A body part called groin includes the upper inner thigh and the indented area of the front of the body where the legs meet the trunk. Lumps and pimples that form in this area can be small or large; they may grow or remain the same size; they may occur as a single lump or in cluster. These lumps can be hard or soft, movable or not movable, painful or asymptomatic. Some lumps turn red or purple while others remain flesh-colored. Many are covered by intact skin, but some can ulcerate or form other types of sores.
You can develop a lump in groin from different causes including injury, allergy, infection, tumors and hernias. Trauma-related causes of lumps are those that result from bug bites or stings, localized collections of blood in the tissues, and scar tissue. Rashes associated with allergies can cause multiple small, itchy lumps that can spread over the body or may be localized in an area such as the groin.

Lump in Groin Causes

In general a groin lump is that pimple that appears in the groin area where the legs and trunk connect. These lumps can vary in sizes and shape, with pain or without pain basing on what caused them to form. In some conditions, it can be a single lump or more. See your doctor as soon as possible if you have a groin lump.
We are going to look at some of the causes of lump in the groin area ranging from swollen lymph nodes, to poor shaving that may result into an ingrown hair bump. Below are some causes of lump your groin:

  1. A Cysts

This is said to be the most common cause of lumps that develop down there. A cyst is usually non-cancerous and benign in nature. After some time, cysts may start enlarging causing a lot of pain or discomfort. As much as they are not a cause of alarm, there are other lumps that may require your attention.

  1. Swollen lymph nodes

When you develop any illness or an infection such as the flu or cold, the lump in your groin region may be a swollen lymph node. Normally, the lymph nodes will flare up at the same time as your lymph glands, which can be found in your armpits, or in your throat.
The swelling of the lymph nodes happens in an attempt to mobilize an immune response against foreign particles and bacteria present in the body. In many cases, the swelling in your lymph nodes will subside as soon as the illness goes away.

  1. Hernia

This normally feels like soft, but very large lump in the groin region. A hernia will normally take place when your abdominal tissue or intestines start to push through an opening that is meant to act as a boundary.
For instance, your intestines could break through a weakened area in your abdominal wall. Weakness or defect in an abdominal wall, combined with muscle strain will usually lead to this issue,

  1. Sexually Transmitted Infections lumps

Some STIs may cause lump in groin area mainly because of the swelling attributed to the lymph nodes. They include Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Herpes and Chlamydia
There are also STIs that will cause a cluster of lumps, which could form sores or break open. For an STI to heal, medical attention must be provided.

  1. Saphena Varix

This is a lump that develops in the groin area and disappears whenever the affected person lies down. Saphena varix is a lump that occurs when the valve in the saphenous vein is unable to open correctly to allow blood to flow through, hence leading to the collection of blood inside this vein.
This condition causes blood to lumps in groin area of women, which are golf-ball sized and which often have a blue tinge. It is likely to develop in people who have varicose veins. The varicose veins are enlarged veins, which normally occur in your feet or legs. This condition is not common though.

  1. Inflammation of genital organs

Anatomical structure of the female urogenital system contributes to easy access of bacteria to the vagina, urethra and bladder. Inflammation caused by different agents is often accompanied by regional lymphadenitis. Internal groin lump in women can be detected by palpation or visually and this lump is an inflamed lymph node.

  1. Allergic reaction

Allergy can cause you to develop a bump in the groin. Some rashes may develop maybe due to allergy caused by the type of clothing fabrics you are putting on. Lymph nodes can be enlarged in response to allergens as well. If you found a groin lump on the left or on the right side, recall the medications you have probably taken the day before or exotic food you have tried also.

  1. Inflammation of a sebaceous gland

Purulent groin lump in groin can be a result of a boil. The predisposing factors for this condition are excessive sweating in the groin area, improper intimate hygiene, injuries caused by shaving or waxing. A boil is a skin infection of a hair follicle. At the stage of its maturation, a woman experiences local pain and can notice the change in the skin color. Typically, a boil matures and opens within 7-10 days.

  1. Inflammation of a sweat gland

If you happen to develop a painful groin lump, this can be due to pathogenic bacteria entered sweat glands. Skin epithelium contains a lot of sweat and sebaceous glands. If you ignore personal hygiene, hidradenitis can relapse repeatedly.  The disease is usually caused by bacteria and effectively treated by the methods of a local therapy.

  1. Inflammation of Bartholin’s gland

If inflammation is located in the Bartholin’s gland, a groin lump is to the right or to the left side of the groin. Bartholinitis can occur because an agent entered the gland during unsafe sex or as a result of improper personal hygiene. This is a painful process and is accompanied by changes in the skin color around the affected gland and swelling.

Swollen Lymph Nodes in Groin Male

Your lymphatic system is a network of organs, vessels and lymph nodes situated throughout your body. Lymph nodes are located in the head, neck armpit and groin region. These sophisticated organs swell up whenever the affected person is undergoing an infection.
A lymph node is a small, round or bean-shaped cluster of cells covered by a capsule of connective tissue. The cells in male are a combination of lymphocytes which produce protein particles that capture invaders, such as viruses and macrophages, which break down the captured material. Lymphocytes and macrophages filter your lymphatic fluid as it travels through your body and protect you by destroying invaders.
When someone is under an infection either in any area of the body or in the groin to be specific, the lymph nodes will swell up. Lymph nodes are located in groups, and each group drains a specific area of your body. Also, the site of the swollen lymph nodes may help identify the underlying cause.

Cyst in Groin Causes

Cyst on inner thigh can be small, big, hard or soft. When inflamed, red bumps between thighs can be painful and cause a lot of discomfort. A lump in groin which is a cyst can cause bulge, bump, contusion, or swollen area on the thigh. Cyst might be brought by any number of the conditions, including the infections, inflammation as well as trauma.
Causes of cyst in the groin may be:

  1. Staph Infections

More serious bacterial infections can lead to an abscess down there. They are mostly accompanied by the pain, redness and swelling in the area. You can also notice a cyst that is forming around the groin area, especially if the condition is with gangrene.
When the hair follicle is damaged by the scratch or any other break in the skin, the bacteria is thus able to move deeper into the follicular tissues, leading to an infection and thus a boil. Boils can appear after taking of antibiotics and are very common in diabetic and the immune compromised people.

  1. Boils or Abscesses

An abscess may be caused by the staph aureus bacteria that infiltrate the skin leading to pain, skin swelling, redness and cysts in groin. The main treatment for abscesses and boils in groin is to apply a warm compress to the affected skin spot and take medication. There may be need to have it lanced by the doctor. Elevating the leg can assist to reduce the swelling of the affected area.

  1. Sebaceous Cyst

These are the growths that have fluid, or any other substances. They then develop under the skin in any part of the body. Sebaceous cysts feel like a small ball and may then be moved around slightly.

Lump in Groin area Female Cancer

Be careful if your groin lump appears to be coming from below the skin, it can be cancerous. A normal lump that is due to injury or even a body growth shrinks or goes away in very few days. If your lump is from the tumors and are not in any way treated, this might lead to a life-threatening situation. Even if they are not the result of cancer, tumors may spread easily if they come close to the bone or to blood vessels.
Usually, the tumors in the groin area are benign and they are developed as lipomas or atheroma’s. Lymph node cancer can also develop and this condition should be distinguished from a common lymph node enlargement.
Even if you feel that you are absolutely healthy and apart from the groin growth you have no other alarming symptoms, it is still necessary to undergo a medical examination. If a groin lump is painless and does not bring any discomfort, you should see a surgeon to exclude an inguinal hernia or benign tumors of adipose tissue or vessels. If you are feeling ill, consult an infectious disease specialist or an STD and skin specialist.

Lump in Groin Treatment

Because there are so many possible causes of a groin lump, your doctor will need to ask you a series of questions. This will include questions about your current health and if you’ve been experiencing any other symptoms. You may have a blood test to check for signs of infection. Your doctor will feel your lymph nodes for inflammation.
The treatment you receive will depend on the cause of the groin lump:

  • Your doctor may recommend surgery to remove a cyst if it’s large or painful.
  • A hernia may require surgery to move the tissue back into place and close the hole in the boundary tissue.
  • Swollen glands will typically go down in time, but your doctor may prescribe an antibiotic to treat an underlying infection.

While cysts and swollen glands aren’t likely to cause any long-term complications, a hernia can be fatal if you don’t get treatment for it quickly. An incarcerated hernia occurs when part of the intestine becomes trapped in the abdominal wall, causing a bowel obstruction. This can lead to vomiting, severe pain, and nausea. A strangulated hernia is a medical emergency. It occurs when part of the intestine is trapped, cutting off blood flow. This condition can quickly lead to the death of intestinal tissue and requires emergency surgery.
STIs that cause groin lumps, such as gonorrhea and chlamydia, can lead to infertility if left untreated. Infections such as syphilis can cause blindness, paralysis, and dementia. All STIs require medication to treat and can easily spread to others through unprotected vaginal or oral sex.

Whiteheads on Nose: inside, Removal Cream, Products, Keep Coming Back, under Skin, Treatment

Whiteheads are types of acne that form when dead skin cells, oil, and bacteria become trapped in your pores. These comedones are usually disturbing especially for those people who value their beauty so much. Understanding the cause of whiteheads can help you know what to do to prevent future breakouts. However there are measures you can take to treat this conditions just at home or by over the counter medication.

Whiteheads on Nose

Whiteheads will develop from clogged pores. One cause of blocked pores is hormonal changes. Certain life stages can increase the amount of sebum, or oil, your pores produce. The increased oil production causes clogged pores and whiteheads. People who are in some stages like puberty; menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause are at a hirer risk of developing whiteheads on nose. We will look into these in details.
How Common Are Whiteheads?
These spots can develop anywhere on your body including the nose, chin, and forehead which are collectively known as the T-zone. The oily parts of your face are the most prone to acne. However, you may also develop whiteheads on your chest, back, shoulders, and arms. Acne can affect any one regardless of the gender and age.

Whiteheads on Nose Causes

As we have said above, whiteheads can appear at any stage of life, and they tend to be associated more with puberty, menopause, pregnancy and menstruation. The underlying causes of this condition may include the following:

  1. Hormonal changes

Hormonal changes in the body are common during puberty, menopause, during pregnancy and during menstruation. These conditions can trigger higher production of sebum in your pores which often culminate in clogged pores. At the end they are seen as whiteheads in the places they form.

  1. Certain medications

People who are taking some medications that have an impact on hormones can as well develop whiteheads on their noses. For example, those who take oral birth control pills may end up with this problem at some point.

  1. Genetics

You may be naturally predisposed to acne and whiteheads due to your genetic makeup. If you are one of these people, you tend to develop whiteheads very easily. This condition usually runs down in the families.

  1. Certain cosmetics

If you are using heavy cosmetic products especially creams with petrolatum, they could also be to blame for your whitehead on nose. This is because the creams block pores when used encouraging dead skin cells and oil to remain inside.

Whiteheads on Nose Keep Coming Back

At some point you may find yourself developing whiteheads that keep coming back after they go away for some time. Small whiteheads on your nose may keep coming back every time you have your periods. The hormonal changes that occur during menstrual periods cause a spike in sebum production from your pores, increasing the chances for their clogging and ultimately the formation of whiteheads.
Young adults who are in pubic stage are also prone to these kinds of comedones that come and go. While whiteheads during menstrual periods tend to develop on the nose, chin and forehead because of their oily nature, they can as well develop on any other area of the body where clogging of pores occurs. That may include shoulders, chest, arms, back etc.

Whiteheads inside Nose

A number of people often perceive whiteheads in nose as a manifestation of a skin condition called folliculitis. As the name suggests, folliculitis is an irritation or infection of hair follicles. Among the factor responsible for this are poor trimming of nose hairs, bacterial imbalance due to inappropriate use of antibiotics, nose picking, and environmental pollutants e.g. chemicals, dust, etc.
The nose provides a perfect breeding ground for bacteria to thrive and as such, whiteheads on nose should not be ignored. Unfortunately, the natural shape of the nose makes it tricky to manage the situation and doesn’t leave much in the way of options as compared to whitehead that occur on the surface of the nose.
There are some of the things you have to observe in order to get rid of whiteheads that form inside your nose:

  • Don’t pick on them: While you may get the urge pick your nose, you should avoid that at all cost as it might lead to destruction of the delicate nerve endings and irritate the nasal lining. It can also spreading of the infection.
  • Apply a warm compress, that is, pat the nose gently with a cotton wool soaked in warm water two times daily.
  • If taking antibiotics, talk to your doctor about it for appropriate advice. Never stop using antibiotics halfway unless under instructed to do so by your doctor.

Rash under Breast Causes: Itchy, Red, Heat, Cancer, Treatment

Another name for rash under breast is intertrigo. This condition usually occurs when the skin folds rub together causing friction and trapping moisture. You may see this condition as a red or reddish-brown rash, raw, itchy or weeping skin with or without a smell and cracked skin.
Intertrigo can form anywhere on the body where skin rubs against each other, for example, between the thighs, on the underside of the belly or the armpits. A warm moist environment encourages infection by yeast, fungus or bacteria.

In most cases, rashes that develop under your breasts have an underlying cause from fungus infection. It does not imply an infection of the deeper breast tissue. Fungal skin infections are common and the most affected sites are the feet and groin although skin anywhere on the body can be affected.
The area under the breast is particularly prone to rash from fungal infections in women for a number of reasons that makes this region ideal for fungi to thrive.

How to identify rash under your breast:

  1. Touch your breast

Women are encouraged to examine their breast twice every month to check there are changes by running their hand over their breast to check any presence of growth of tumor. They should make a routine especially before they experience menstruation cycle while those who have reached menopause should identify an appropriate time to do so.

  1. Nipple discharge

In case the nipple changes in its appearance from its normal state, a lady should not ignore this but instead visit a doctor to check on this.

  1. Peeling, scaling, or flaking skin

  1. Pitting breast skin

In case there is appearance of dimples on breast skin, which then becomes orange in appearance by peeling due to inflammation thus it is a clear indication to seek for medication.

What Causes Rash under Breast

Rash that develop under the breast usually can be as a result of many issues that take advantage of the moist area on your breast. However, the causes of this rash can be categorized into four groups including: infections, allergies, autoimmune disorders, and cancer.

  1. Infections

This is the leading cause of the rash under your breast. The warm, moist skin under breasts is an ideal breeding ground for bacterial, fungal, and yeast infections.

  • Candidiasis

This is a condition resulting from yeast, or fungi, that cause vaginal yeast infections, oral thrush infections, and diaper rash. These fungal infections are often seen in babies, people with illnesses that affect their immune system, and in people who are taking antibiotics. This yeast is said to be naturally appearing in our bodies but in harmless state. It only causes infection when there are chances of compromised immune system or presence of necessary conditions to provoke it.
On your breasts, candida yeast thrives in the moist, warm environment like under the breasts mostly for breast feeding mothers. They cause a rash under breast that often develops uncomfortable blisters and small cracks. Like many other rashes, candidiasis can be very itchy.

  • Ringworm

Ringworm condition does not originate from worms. It is just one of several types of fungal infections called tinea. Fungi are microscopic, single-cell organisms that are in the air, soil, water, animals, and people. The types of fungi that cause ringworm and related skin conditions such as athlete’s foot and jock itch are parasites that feed on dead keratin, the protein that makes up your skin, nails, and hair. Ringworm appears as round, red patches of skin with a distinctive red ring.
Ringworm is highly contagious and often spreads via shared towels, sheets, and showers. You can even get it from your pets.

  • Mastitis

This is an infection of the breast that is common to women who are breastfeeding, although women who aren’t breastfeeding can get it as well. Small cracks in the nipple can be an entry point for bacteria. Clogged milk ducts can also become infected. If it is untreated, it can lead to the formation of painful, pus-filled abscesses in your breast, so it’s important to contact your doctor.

  1. Allergies

A rash under your breasts can be an allergic response to a range of substances, including: foods, medications, insect stings, pollen and plants. This can be seen as hives which are red or, more rarely, skin-colored bumps that can itch violently. If you press on hives, they will blanch, turning white. Hives can occur on any part of your body.
Hives are usually treated with antihistamines. These drugs block histamines, the natural chemical in your skin that causes the hives. You may also use cold compresses and topical preparations such as cortisone creams or calamine lotion.

  1. Autoimmune disorders

There are a few different autoimmune disorders that may cause a rash under your breast. Autoimmune disorders are chronic conditions that cannot be cured, but you can treat the symptoms.

  • Eczema

Patches of inflamed red or reddish-gray skin that itch severely are signs of eczema, or atopic dermatitis. Eczema can develop small, fluid-filled bumps that ooze and crust over. Over time, your skin can dry out and be prone to irritation and itching before it flares up again.
Eczema can be found anywhere on your body in form of a rash. There’s no cure for eczema. It can be controlled by keeping your skin moisturized with fragrance-free moisturizers and by using cortisone creams or gels to control the itching. Eczema symptoms may be made worse by:

  • harsh soaps and detergents
  • wool
  • sweat
  • stress
  • Inverse psoriasis

This is a less common form of psoriasis, a chronic disease of the immune system. It’s characterized by smooth, rash under breast or in skin in the folds of the body. The condition is often seen under the breasts, the armpits, and the groin area. Inverse psoriasis doesn’t usually have the flaky skin plaques associated with other types of psoriasis.

  • Hyperhidrosis

On average, a person has between two and four million sweat glands and sweats up to a quart of fluid per day. Hyperhidrosis is a condition in which your body’s sweat glands produce more sweat than is needed to cool the body. All that perspiration is a welcome mat for germs that cause infections. The cause of hyperhidrosis is unknown, but it tends to run in families.
Antiperspirants may be used under the breasts. In fact, there are also body antiperspirants made for this purpose and some are even available in powder form. If they don’t do the job, your doctor may prescribe a more powerful antiperspirant. Botox injections and the removal of sweat glands via laser or traditional surgery are options for severe cases.

  • Hailey-Hailey disease

Although I have never heard of it before, research has revealed this is a rare inherited disorder. It is characterized by a persistent blistering rash under breasts. Can also be found:

  • on the neck
  • between the buttocks
  • in the arm pits and groin

The rash tends to come and go spontaneously. Over time, the skin can become tough and dry, and may develop painful cracks.
Hailey-Hailey disease is often treated with corticosteroid cream or ointment, and antibiotics. More stubborn cases may be treated with oral corticosteroids or antibiotics, photodynamic light therapy, or laser therapy. If you have Hailey-Hailey disease, your doctor will advise you to avoid situations that make you sweat, such as not wearing heavy clothing that doesn’t breathe and not exerting yourself too much in hot weather.

  1. Cancer

You can as well develop a rash on your breast nipple, under the breast or on top of the breast from inflammatory cancer. Cancer of the breast is normally dangerous as it may lead you to lose your entire breast. However it is not that common to have it but in case your rash appears with symptoms that are not common, you should see your doctor for examination.

Reasons for an Itchy Rash under Breast

Itchy rash under your breast is more as a result of bacterial and fungal infections. Warm, moist areas are more prone to these skin rashes. If you have a persistent rash under the breasts, see your doctor. Keeping skin clean and dry, looking out for possible allergic triggers, and seeing a dermatologist when necessary can prevent rashes from coming back.

  1. Fungal Infections

These are a common cause of an itchy rash under the breast. As we discussed above, a type of yeast known as Candida is the most frequent offender. Candida-related skin rashes are typically red, but white, scaly areas may form as well. Uncontrolled diabetes, antibiotic use, chronic steroid use, obesity and HIV are risk factors for Candida skin infections. Keeping the area dry by sprinkling antifungal powder, under the breasts.

  1. Bacterial Infection

Itchy rashes under the breast can be caused by bacteria, especially Staphylococcus and Streptococcus bacteria. As with Candida infections, diabetes and immune system disorders are risk factors. However, minor skin trauma can allow bacteria to invade the skin and cause an infection in someone without risk factors. Bacterial skin rashes are usually bright red may be slightly raised and are often warm to the touch.

  1. Allergic Dermatitis

Skin allergies as well are results of itchy rashes under the breast. A skin rash due to an allergy is known as allergic dermatitis. Allergic dermatitis is commonly red and very itchy. People with a history of asthma, seasonal allergies or eczema, dry, flaky, inflamed skin on other parts of the body are at increased risk for allergic dermatitis. Allergic triggers vary from person to person, but laundry detergents, perfumes and lotions are often to blame.

What does Red Rash on Breast not Itchy mean

As well said above, rash under breast usually develops when the lower breast rests against the skin below. The rash formed under the breasts can either be so itchy or with no itch according to what caused it. Trapped moisture, perspiration and friction between the skin of the breast and chest wall causes an inflammatory rash called intertrigo. The affected skin can become secondarily infected with yeast, bacteria, or both.
To keep the area dry during the day, especially in hot weather, you might try placing a piece of soft, absorbent fabric below each breast. Some products are available over the counter that can be used for this purpose, such as ABD pads and silver-infused fabric. Avoid paper products — such as paper towels, or facial or toilet tissue — which can further irritate the inflamed skin. Fabric or pads used to absorb perspiration must be changed when they become moist.

Heat Rash on Breast

Heat rash, properly called miliaria, occurs when your sweat glands become blocked and sweat can’t be excreted through the pores. Instead, the sweat pools under your skin, causing inflammation and a rash. Heat rash under breast may be so painful especially if infection at the area has taken advantage.
The best treatment is to cool off. Heat rash happens mainly when you sweat more than normal because of heat and humidity. Heat rash usually clears up without treatment.

Is a Rash on the Breast a Sign of Cancer

Inflammatory breast cancer is a very rare form of rapidly spreading cancer. Symptoms include:

  • Pink or red skin discoloration
  • pitted skin often described as looking like an orange peel
  • Pimple-like rash
  • An inverted nipple that points inward rather than outward

Breast Feel Sore Causes: Before Period, Pregnancy, Treatment

There are many reasons why your breasts can feel sore, and therefore this should not always be charged as a symptom of breast cancer. This condition can be so annoying especially when at work whereby by you are always tempted to keep on putting your hand there.
However, just because the condition is not always dangerous, that doesn’t mean that you should just ignore any aches, soreness, or other unusual feelings that turn up in your breasts. The moment your breasts feel sore or any other strange feeling it is important you find out what could be the cause of it.
While your condition persists, it is important to know what your breasts feel sore especially within just a short period of time. In some cases you may have put on a bra in the morning, while you try to do something that requires you to stretch you feel an annoying twinge of pain in one or both of your breasts.
Researchers say that while a lot of women may get worried when they realize a sharp sore feeling in their breasts, it is nothing to worry about. It has been revealed that breast pain is a much more common thing and harmless than you might think.
If in your case you have breast pain accompanied with sudden, severe, or seems to be related to a new lump, that should be investigated by your doctor. This can help ease your mind to know that breast pain is more often associated with a bunch of other symptoms. The way you work out, the medications you take and your period can all cause some unfortunate soreness in your breasts.

Why does my Breast feel Sore and tender?

The following are common causes:

  1. You are about to get your period

Progesterone production peaks in the week before you get your period, which can cause expansion of the milk duct and lead to pre-menstrual breast tenderness. This is known as a “cyclical” form of breast pain, meaning that it occurs on a regular schedule. In fact, if your cycles are super regular, you can use this breast soreness to actually feel when your period is on its way.

  1. Sign of perimenopause

Just as predictable, monthly breast pain signals that the inner workings of your reproductive cycle are proceeding as scheduled, unpredictable breast pain can be a sign that your reproductive organs are stopping their normal reproduction cycle. Random breast pain is a common sign of the stage before true menopause sets in, a phase that most women enter into between the ages of 45 and 55.
However you should not be worried that you are somehow going into early menopause if your breasts seem to suddenly be aching at all different points of the month. Premature menopause is rare, and the odds that you have it, especially absent any of the other symptoms like periods or common causes like ovary removal are usually low.

  1. Early signs of pregnancy

A hormone called Progesterone will cause breast soreness during your menstrual cycle. The same hormone also jumps in production in the early days of a pregnancy. This is the reason why for numerous women when breats feel sore, it is a sign of pregnancy. In case this information makes you scared, take comfort in the fact that many mothers say that there are differences between pregnancy breast pain and period breast pain. The pregnancy one is often more extreme, lasts for a longer amount of time, and is usually accompanied by other early pregnancy symptoms, like nausea.

  1. You have a wrong bra size

Your breasts feel sore maybe because your bra size is wrong, and this is more severe if you wore a tighter bra than your size should be, or by not providing adequate support to the breast throughout the day. This, however, can easily be solved by getting a bra fitting at your local bra-specialty shop, department-store lingerie section, or other place where specially trained women can take measurement of your bra size, so that you get the right one to avoid hearting yourself.

  1. You’re over-caffeinated

It is also believed that your breasts feel sore sometime because of consuming too much caffeine, especially in women with fibrocystic breasts, which are often more vulnerable to breast pain. Though no formal laboratory studies have found caffeine to have an impact on breast sensitivity, some women find that cutting caffeine helps with random aches and pains in their chesticles.

  1. A pool of a muscle

Excessive exercise may cause pain or soreness, especially in women with large breasts. Reducing exercise that causes stress here may be helpful. If it cannot be avoided, such as for athletes or those who work in active environments, sports bras may take undue stress from the body.
Physical activities that engage the pectorals like playing rugby and shoveling snow can strain chest muscles, like the pectoralis major. These strains, which can feel like it’s emanating from inside the breast, is actually in the muscle below the breast tissue, and while it’s a fairly rare injury, it can require surgery, so please, see a doctor if you think you may have sprained your boob.

  1. You’re just not that into someone

It is believed that breasts have the added bonus of generally coming into play sooner in a sexual encounter than our vaginas — so if your breasts feel weird, or just not engorged or engaged while you’re making out with someone, it can be a helpful sign that you need to take things slower, or that you’re less into this encounter than you thought.

  1. Water Retention

Water retention due to salts, inactivity or medical symptoms may cause breasts to become heavier. If you determine that your diet is rich in salt, then it may be advantageous to reduce your intake. Increased exercise may also reduce water retention. As exercise – as discussed later – may be a cause of breast pain, it is important to follow an appropriate course of action.

  1. Animal Fats

Studies have shown that animal fat may be attributed to soreness in breasts. It is unclear whether the fats themselves are the culprit or if the animal hormones are the cause. Since potentially debilitating breast pain can have such an influence on your life, it may be wise to take a second look at meat consumption.

  1. Dairy Products

Like animal fats, the reasons for the link between breast pain and dairy are not yet determined. Because of common agricultural practices, dairy animals may be supplemented with extra hormones to increase production. While dairy and dairy fats may be the cause of increased breast pains, it is also possible that these hormones and chemicals may be culpable. Reduce dairy consumption if you find that you are consuming it on a daily basis or in excess before you experience sore breasts.

  1. Birth Control and Hormone Therapy

While beneficial for reducing the chances of pregnancy, birth control may have a strong impact on your body’s natural hormone production. Additionally, hormone therapy may be influential in the negative side effects of pain and displeasure. Speak with your medical provider about any concerns you may have regarding side effects.

  1. Stress

Stress can cause many problems people at all times in their life. That soreness could just be one of the reason for your stress. You may find that stress may be a catalyst for these sensations, so it is wise to reduce stress on your body and in your life when you notice bodily pain.

Why you get Sore Breast before Period

As we have discussed above, female who have attained a menstruating age are likely to have their reproductive areas feel  feel sore a day or two before they get their periods. All this pain is caused by normal changes that take place in your hormonal balance. It is usually all due to hormonal fluxes in the menstrual cycle. Estrogen reaches a peak around the middle of your cycle, and progesterone reaches its peak the following week.
When it turns out that both are at very high levels during the middle of your cycle, you may start experiencing soreness in your breasts. Your breasts are particularly affected because they have estrogen and progesterone receptors, so they are especially picked on in that way.

Can you get Sore Breasts after Period?

Apart from just before periods, it is also possible for soreness and tenderness during and after the menstrual cycle. This is not an indication of pregnancy, but rather a potential indication of symptoms that may be caused by diet, hormones, stress or other causes. There are numerous things that can cause you to have breast feel sore and many of them we have talked about them above.
Pain is often incorrectly self- diagnosed as a more serious problem. However, as sore breasts and other pains can range from mild to severe and acute to chronic, it may be beneficial to speak with a medical professional. Breast pain during pregnancy, lactation and weaning are not unusual and therefore not associated with mastalgia. Both cyclical and non-cyclical mastalgia may be present, with cyclical mastalgia being the most common occurrence.
To just touch on examples, vasodilators, chemicals that cause the dilation of blood vessels, may cause stretching, distention and stress. Because of this influence, pain and other unpleasant sensations maybe felt. If you find that you are excessively using these drugs or chemicals, then it may be beneficial for your health to reduce consumption.

Is Sore Breasts a Sign of Menopause?

Sore breasts can be as well as a result of menopause as we said above on causes, along with other symptoms like hot flashes and vaginal dryness. When you enter menopause, your monthly menstrual periods stop. This is because your body is no longer producing the hormones estrogen and progesterone.
Menopause is not usually just a stopping point but it is usually a gradual process that usually takes between four to eight years. This gradual period that will result up to menopause is called perimenopause. It can be realized when the periods starts becoming irregular. Perimenopause usually begins when you’re in your 40s.
You are generally considered to be in menopause after you haven’t had a period in a full year. During this time, you may experience a range of symptoms, from hot flashes to vaginal dryness and sore breasts.

Is Breast tenderness and Sore a Sign Pregnancy

Sensitive, sore and tingling breasts are one of the earliest signs that you’re pregnant. You may have noticed this tenderness from about three weeks or four weeks of your pregnancy, before you even did a pregnancy test.
During this time your breasts may become so tender that even your clothes brushing against them feels unbearable. You may also not like having your breasts touched. This will pass, and the soreness is likely to lessen after your first trimester.
When you get to your second trimester, your surging hormone levels will settle down. This won’t necessarily spell the end of sore breasts altogether, though. Tenderness may still happen now and then throughout your pregnancy.
Why breasts feel sore during pregnancy

  • As your body gears up to support your growing baby, you produce more of the hormones oestrogen and progesterone. A similar hormone surge happens to you before a period, so this tenderness is probably an exaggerated version of how your breasts feel then.
  • Along with the effects of a hormone surge, your breasts are likely to be getting bigger. The fat layer in them thickens, milk glands multiply, and blood flow increases. As uncomfortable as it may feel, these changes are preparing your breasts for the important role of feeding your baby.
  • Your breasts may grow rapidly in early pregnancy, or they may grow gradually as your pregnancy progresses. Or you may not even notice much difference in the size of your breasts until the end of your pregnancy. When it does happen, the change in size can be quite dramatic, particularly if this is your first pregnancy. You will probably go up a couple of cup sizes by the time you have your baby. Don’t worry if this hasn’t happened by the end of pregnancy, as your breasts may expand more once your baby has arrived.

Can you have Sore Breasts and not Pregnant?

We have seen that your breasts feel sore when you are pregnant. However you may have this feeling as well when you are not pregnant. There are some other many reasons that we have discussed in this contexts that will leave you with soreness while you are not pregnant. Many women experience this symptom just prior to the onset of menstruation. Depending on the woman, it may feel like soreness, stabbing pain, heaviness or burning pain. Typically, women experience sore breasts in their upper breast area from their armpits across the chest.
A major reason for breast pain is menstruation and changes in hormonal levels. If the pain is severe or chronic, it could be a sign of something worse.  Since sore breasts can be a sign of breast cancer, it is worth it to go to a doctor and get professionally checked out to be on the safe side.

How to Treat Sore Breast

There are many treatments from many cultures to relieve pain in the breasts. While it is acceptable to follow folk remedies, it is always favorable to make proper changes. Dietary changes, either eliminating negative foods or adding beneficial foods, will likely take some monitoring to determine its benefits. Exercise may also be a cause or help in regards to these pains. Medical needs may require an appointment or discussion with a doctor.

  1. Magnesium

It is an important daily nutrient that can help alleviate breast issues like tenderness and pain during menstruation. Magnesium helps reduce fluid retention, which reduces pain and swelling in the breasts. Eat foods rich in magnesium like dark leafy greens, nuts, seeds, soybeans, avocados, bananas and dark chocolate. You can also take magnesium supplements 2 weeks before your menstrual cycle to prevent breast to feel sore as well as other premenstrual symptoms. For proper dosage, consult your doctor.

  • When you want to go for bed, suck on a cough drop or hard candy to soothe your throat and decrease the urge to cough.
  • You can collect some best medicine formulated specifically for a dry cough from your pharmacist.
  • If the cough lasts for more than 7 to 10 days you should run to your doctor for examination. Also, if your cough persists with nasal symptoms that improve but then get worse, your doctor should examine you for sinusitis. In that case, an antibiotic may be prescribed.
  • A cough lasting longer than a week or two could be the result of another health condition, such as bronchitis, chronic sinusitis, reflux, asthma, or pneumonia, so getting a doctor’s input is crucial.

Am very sure if your case is not much worse (like TB), these tips will help you to get some quality rest. However, while coughing helps you get better from your problem, it is important to know what could have caused it. If the case is not resolving too soon, just go and be diagnosed by your doctor.

Dry Cough at Night Causes

This dry cough is usually associated with a tickly cough and can be caused by viral infections or allergies as we stated above. As research reveals, unlike a chesty cough, a dry cough does not produce any mucus and is therefore termed as ‘non-productive.’
It is known that dry cough is commonly caused by cold and flu viruses. It can also be triggered by atmospheric pollutants irritating your throat. In most of these situations, dry coughs occur because the back of your throat becomes irritated or inflamed, but may also arise from deeper in the chest.
Any cough can be a nuisance and this is particularly so if sleep is disturbed. A vicious cycle can develop – if one is tired, recovery from any infection or illness can take longer. The following are causes:

  1. Cold and flu

This is a condition caused by viral infection. These coughs may occur at the start of the illness or more likely, appear towards the middle or the end of the infection, and may linger long after other symptoms have disappeared

  1. Allergic reactions

This is also one of the most common causes of dry constant cough that night. Hay fever is allergy to grass and tree pollen, which causes irritation to the eyes and nose and when the throat is affected, a cough results. Sensitivity to other particles such as animal fur, known as allergic rhinitis, can also lead to the same symptom
Moreover, air pollutants can irritate the back of the throat causing a cough. This is the situation seen when non-smokers enter a smoky room

  1. Acid reflux

Research shows that your cough can be as well as a result of acid reflux. Here, this happen when the acidic contents of the stomach travels upwards to the back of the throat. Then little amounts of acid may enter the upper respiratory tract, causing inflammation and dry cough at night. This is more likely to happen when one is lying down flat. Acid reflux is a prominent element of GORD or GERD (Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease).

  1. Asthma

This is a chronic disease of the bronchioles and which is likely to attack young people. These small tubes transport air into the depths of the lungs and can become inflamed and narrowed as a result of a variety of factors, including an allergic tendency. Some of the early signs of asthma include coughing at night, coughing whilst exercising and a mild wheeze

  1. Heart failure

This is a weakening of the heart’s ability to pump blood. As the heart struggles to move blood round the body, fluid builds up in tissues. In the lungs, the cough reflex is triggered in an attempt to rid the body of unwanted fluid. The situation is made worse when lying down as this posture allows fluid to accumulate more easily in the lungs. Heart failure and heart disease are the main causes of persistent coughing at night in those over 65 years of age

  1. Sinusitis

The sinuses are small cavities lying within the cheekbone and forehead. Sinusitis is the condition which comes about when the lining of these cavities become infected and inflamed, giving rise to the main symptom of the feeling of a blocked nose. Mucus in the sinuses drains into the back of the nose and pharynx. When you lie down, excess mucus drips down into the back of your throat, irritates the tissues, triggering the dry cough at night reflex.

  1. Some blood pressure drugs

ACE inhibitors can trigger a dry cough that won’t quit for some people. Some medicines, particularly those for high blood pressure, can result in a dry cough. If your doctor finds that one of these problems is causing your cough, you’ll need to treat that specific condition to find relief. Talk to your doctor about the best plan.

  1. Lung problems and cancer

A persistent cough can also be a specific sign of lung problems, including lung cancer. For this case, it is important that you visit your doctor to confirm that it is cancer that causes a dry cough at night.

  1. Whooping cough

This is a bacterial disease caused by Bordetella pertussis characterized by bouts of coughing followed by gasping of air in a distinctive ‘whoop’ sound. It is not as common as it used to be

  1. TB – Tuberculosis

This is a highly infectious bacterial disease which primarily affects the lungs and results a dry cough at night as well. In the early stages, it gives rise to a persistent dry cough. TB was once thought to have become extinct throughout the World, but cases have increased recently because of a combination of drug resistance and lowered immune resistance.
Other causes of a dry cough include:

  • Psychological conditions – this is when coughing has become a habit. It is also sometimes referred to as a psychogenic cough. There is no physical illness behind the cough and often the person does not even realize he or she is coughing. A feature of this type of cough is that it goes away when one is asleep
  • Nerves and stress – many people cough when they are in a stressful situation. Breathing becomes shallow when you are anxious and this can trigger the cough reflex. Some people tend to be more anxious than others, and for them the ‘natural’ nervous cough can become a problem if they find themselves in uncomfortable situations. Often, the underlying problem will have to be addressed in order to cure the dry cough.

Home Remedies for Dry Cough at Night

If a dry cough has been denying you sleep all night long, it is a high time that you start thinking on ways to clear the problem. There are numerous ways you can find help to kick out that problem for good. You can visit you medical provider who will diagnose you find out what could have caused you that lingering dry cough all night. However, while you are at home, you may try some of these remedies as they can also relieve your condition as well.
Depending on what is causing you the cough, there are different remedies and lifestyle changes you can try to relieve or prevent nighttime coughing in both adults and children.

  1. Incline the head of your bed

As we have learned above, acid reflux will get you in the night if your sleeping mode is not the right one. Moreover, it is easier that way for irritants to make their way to your throat to trigger a dry cough at night when you’re lying down. Avoid this by propping up some pillows to raise your head.

  1. Use a humidifier

Dry, warm air can irritate your throat and airways. Some people also cough when they turn their heater on in the winter. This is due to the release of pollutants that built up in the heating ducts. A humidifier that produces a cool mist can help keep the air in your bedroom moist. This can keep your throat feeling better.

  1. Try honey

Honey and a hot drink can help loosen mucus in your throat. Mix two teaspoons of honey into a caffeine-free tea, such as herbal tea, to drink before bed. You should never give honey to children younger than 1 year, however.

  1. Tackle your GERD

Your sleeping position makes it easier for stomach acid to backflow into your esophagus. This condition is known as acid reflux. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic form of acid reflux and a common cause of nighttime coughing. But there are some lifestyle changes you can try to reduce a dry cough at night caused by GERD.
Also, avoid foods that trigger your GERD. Keep a food diary to help you figure out what these foods are if you’re not sure.

  1. Use air filters and allergy-proof your bedroom

When your immune system overreacts to an allergen, allergy symptoms such as coughing can occur. Dust allergy is a common cause of cough, especially at night when you’re exposed to dust mites or pet dander on your bedding.

  1. Prevent cockroaches

The saliva, feces, and body parts of cockroaches may cause dry cough at night and other allergy symptoms. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, cockroaches are a common cause of allergies and asthma attacks. Eliminate piles of newspapers and magazines that attract dust and give cockroaches places to hide. Also, use an exterminator to eliminate a severe cockroach infestation.

  1. Seek treatment for a sinus infection

Stuffed-up sinuses or a sinus infection may cause postnasal drip, especially when lying down. Postnasal drip tickles the back of your throat and leads to coughing. If nighttime coughing is caused by a medical condition such as a sinus infection, it’s important to get treatment. You may need a prescription from your doctor for antibiotics.

  1. Rest and take decongestants for a cold

Your coughs may be caused by the common cold. Your cough may worsen at night or when you lie down. Rest, chicken soup, fluids, and time are usually all it takes to beat a cold. Severe coughs due to a cold, however, may be treated with cough medication in adults and children older than 6 years. Decongestant sprays that help reduce postnasal drip may also be used in adults and children older than 6 years to reduce dry cough at night.

  1. Manage asthma

Asthma causes airways to become narrow and inflamed. A dry cough is a common symptom of asthma. You may need a prescription inhaler to treat asthma.

  1. Stop smoking

A chronic cough is a common side effect of long-term smoking. It’s not a quick fix, but if you’re a smoker, talks to your doctor about programs to help you kick the habit. Not only will your cough improve, your overall health will, too.

Home Remedies for Dry Cough for Kids

Medications carry a risk of serious side effects in this age group and may not be effective for young children. Fortunately, most coughs are caused by a virus and clear up on their own. If your child is suffering from a dry cough, there are some steps that you can take at home to nurse him back to health.

  • Give your child plenty of liquids to drink. These can moisturize and soothe a sore, scratchy throat.
  • Feed your child chicken soup that contains garlic. Research reveals that this combination carries antiviral properties, and your child may feel better faster.
  • Offer your child cough drops or lozenges, but only if she is over the age of three. Before that, cough drops pose a choking hazard. Lozenges containing zinc may shorten the duration of her illness. Those containing menthol or eucalyptus can help to relieve a dry cough at night.
  • Moisturize your child’s throat and nasal passages by putting her in a steamy bathroom or running a vaporizer. The moisture may calm down a dry, tickling throat and may reduce coughing.
  • Give your child a teaspoon of honey. This honey works as well as over-the-counter cough suppressants at easing a cough. Mix the honey in a mug of herbal tea or warm water.

Home Remedies for Cough and Cold

There are plenty of treatments for nighttime coughs that can help. Most of the time, home remedies or over-the-counter (OTC) treatments can work wonders. But if those don’t help, your doctor can prescribe a stronger cough medicine that includes something to make you drowsy.
How to calm dry cough at night
Start with simple solutions to see if they stop the hacking:

  • Use a humidifier to make the air moist, or breathe steam from a hot shower or tea kettle before bed.
  • Raise your head up a bit with an extra pillow.
  • Try a saline or saltwater nose spray.
  • Swallow a teaspoon of honey. (Note: This is not for babies younger than 1 year old.)
  • Sip warm tea or soup.
  • Suck on menthol or honey lozenges before bedtime.

How to Stop Coughing at Night without Medicine

A persistent cough may feel tempted to head to the pharmacy and pick up a cough suppressant medication. Cough suppressants contain ingredients to stop you from coughing but rarely treat the underlying cause. Cough medications are typically not recommended for children under 4 and can cause side effects, such as dizziness, drowsiness and stomach upset. You can use natural remedies to get rid of your cough at home.

  • Run a hot shower with the door closed. Sit or stand in the steam-filled room to help you naturally remedy your dry cough at night. Expose yourself to steam for a minimum of 20 minutes.
  • Elevate your head when you sleep. Drain fluid away from your head by using an extra pillow or raising the headboard of your bed.
  • Run a cool mist humidifier in your room. Oftentimes, coughs are worse at night and can make sleep difficult. A cool mist humidifier that uses cold water to operate can break up congestion to relieve your cough. Add a couple drops of eucalyptus oil to the humidifier to help you breathe easier.
  • Drink a lot of water as we stated above.

Infected Belly Button Piercing: Signs, Causes, How to Heal

Also known as infected navel piercing, belly button piercing infection, pain and bumps are all a problem when it comes to navel piercing healing. This type of piercing can add charm to your belly button especially if you have a toned flat stomach attractive to be seen. However, if these piercings are not taken good care of, they can get infections which may make them take several months to heal. An infection does not happen only to new piercing, as many cases have been reported of infected belly piercings after 6 months or even after years of completely healing.

Infected Belly Button Piercing

Due to the location of the navel – a dark and damp place – infections can be common especially if your navel is very deep. According to research findings, the navel is the second most risky place to have a piercing after the eye as the navel piercing hole can be a gateway for infections reaching your abdominal cavities. They say that, since the ring will always touch the clothing, spread of micro-organisms can easily reach your abdominal parts.
Researchers also add that there are inherent risks of injuries, belly button piercing scars, keloid formation, piercing rejection, stretch from weight gain or pregnancy, among other minor discomforts.
The main causes of belly button infections on the piercing include bacteria and allergic reactions. However, fungi, yeast, and other pathogenic microorganism can also cause infections but in minimum levels. These pathogens will tend to thrive if you create a favorable environment such as:

  • not clean your piercing regularly,
  • touching it with dirty hands,
  • poor personal hygiene, injuries,
  • unsterilized piercing equipment,
  • wrong piercing jewelry (in terms of size or material that cause allergies)

Your belly button can take approximately 9 to 12 months for it to heal completely. For those with low body strength, it can go up to two years. After you have had a piercing, the first few weeks of the healing time should be of great care to the piercing to avoid getting an infection. Your piercer will provide you with aftercare routine which you should follow to the latter to keep yourself away from risks.

Belly Button Piercing Infection Causes

In most cases if you are to have an infection on your navel piercing, it will occur a few days after the piercing. You will start experiencing the symptoms a few days after the piercing. While fresh body piercings can be a source of discomfort even when they are still fresh, it does not mean they are infected. It is also important for you to know that even an old belly button piercing can get infections if good care is not observed.

  1. Contaminated piercing equipment

According to some research, a piercing done by a gun more often will cause harm to the customer. This is because these piercing equipment are known to be difficult to disinfect.

  1. Poor quality jewelry

The quality of the rings or studs you use on your belly button matters. Navel piercing jewelry, especially cheap and fake ones are a major cause of infections since they break easily and cause irritation on the skin. Some will cause allergic reactions. The risk of belly button piercing is higher if the area has not healed.

  1. Poor aftercare activities

This is one of the major causes of infections. It involves things like touching the wound with dirty hands, poor cleaning techniques and lack of ventilation which in turn result to an infection. Contaminating the area can only cause problems and diseases.

Infected Belly Button Piercing Bump

In the extreme point of infection you may end up developing a pimple or bump on your belly button piercing. This is an alarm that your condition requires immediate care response. You can visit your health care provider who can suggest the best treatment that will work well for your condition. If you try home remedies for some time without noticing a change, stop using them and see your doctor for diagnosis and best treatment.
A bubble or bump on belly button piercing
When dealing with lumps that develop on your navel piecing, there are two types of bumps in this case;

  • Bump without infection – for example, granulomas is a bump that forms as a result of overgrown body tissue and may not be due to an infection
  • Bump with infection – When the bump resembles a pimple and contains a discharge, there is a reason to worry of an infection.

As we said earlier, formation of a bump on your pierced belly button is a common sign that it is infected. This condition usually takes place after the few initial weeks of the piercing. If no quick response is taken to ascertain the cause of the bump and treatment carried out, it may develop into a scar or keloid.
Research results shows that most people tend to get best and quick relief when the use some good home remedies such as tea tree oil followed by the warm saline water compresses.  Piercing solutions have also been found helpful in getting rid of belly button piercing infected bumps.
Moreover, if you follow various ways as outlined by the piercer on how to clean an infected belly button piercing, it can help in getting rid of the bump or bubble on it. There are those who prioritize on visiting their doctors. However, seeking medical attention may be the only option if the infection is not responding to aftercare treatments.

Symptoms of Infected Belly Button Piercing

There are many symptoms that will tell you that your belly button piercing is not in normal condition and this may include an abscess, pain, green pus, serious irritation and sometimes itchiness. The signs and symptoms of the infection may vary from person to person depending on the cause of it. The following are the common signs in details that show your belly button piercing is infected.

  1. Cyst or abscess with pus

A swollen pocket on your navel piercing that contains pus is an abscess. Any abscess that forms on your body is a clear indication that you have an infection. The swelling caused by an abscess may be accompanied by some shooting pain. Further symptoms may be witnessed as the cyst or abscess advances to cellulitis. If the cyst punctures, the abscess may discharge a clear liquid. In an advanced stage of infection, the color may change to grayish, then to yellowish pus and green pus.

  1. Discharge

You can have a discharge from your piercing even if it is not affected. A clear discharge immediately after the piercing is not from infection. For an infected navel, the discharge may be accompanied by some pain or change of color. While urachal cysts are the main cause of drainage from belly button, causes relating to your piercing may include thrush, yeast infections and bacterial infections. If you see a discharge of any color oozing from your navel, see a doctor immediately for treatment.

  1. Green pus

As I have said above, a clear fluid oozing slowly from the navel, especially with a new piercing, might be normal, as it is usually just lymph fluid. However, green pus discharged from the navel can mean an infection is in an advanced stage. A yellowish to greenish pus is likely to have a foul smell. Most people notice that their belly buttons smell like cheese or poop due to these infections.

  1. Bump or keloid

The bumps that result from infections may look like small pimples or a rash on your navel area. It is important that you get them treated fast. Fungal infections on a pierced belly button are common and may have signs such as rash or pimples. Keloids on the other hand may develop from the healing process. Keloids worsen if the area has an infection that won’t go away or keeps recurring. Keloids are likely to form closer to the navel piercing ring.

  1. Irritation, redness and swelling

Irritation and swelling is normal for new piercings. This should however not last for more than a week or two. Swelling and redness are signs of belly button infection, especially after healing. The irritation comes from the activity of bacteria on the skin. If your navel is swollen, apply a cold pack to relieve the swelling as you seek proper diagnosis and treatment.

  1. Pain, hurt or aches from navel piercing

Pain and discomfort are major signs of something having gone wrong. For fresh piercings, a little pain is normal, but for already healed navel piercings, hurting or throbbing aches are a sign of a developing infection. While a slight pull of the belly button ring can make it hurt, the pain should subside rather quickly instead of increasing in intensity.

  1. bubble, blood blister or red spots

A blood blister is a small pocket filled with blood. These usually form around the piercing hole. Red spots are not always due to infections on navel piercings. Mishandling of the ring can cause a bruise around the hole, causing a blood blister to form. You may also see red streaks and red spots. However, in some instances, red spots and blood blister bubbles can be a symptom of an early cyst or abscess forming.

  1. Itchy belly button piercing

Itching is one sign of either a fungal infection or an allergic reaction. While itching can be caused by foreign irritants such as belly button lint, contact dermatitis and bruising, if the piercing is still not healed yet it starts to itch, an infection is likely to have occurred.

Healing Belly Button Piercing

Although these piercings look great, the belly button healing process takes a long time. Within this duration, it is possible to experience a lot of events that could delay healing. To make sure that the belly button piercing healing is smooth, you need to pay attention to the aftercare procedures. Keep the piercing clean and avoid any trauma being exerted on it.
Healing belly button
To facilitate healing, it is important that you clean up the piercing thoroughly and regularly. Use a fragrance free mild soap to wash the piercing. Avoid cleansers that contain alcohol and dies as well. The navel piercing should also be given saline soak treatments twice each day. Once done with cleaning the area, it is advisable to use paper towels to pat the area dry. Avoid rubbing the wound with a towel as this could irritate the piercing. Also watch out if you are using a towel. It has to be sterilized to avoid transferring micro-organisms to the wound which could cause infections.

Belly Button Piercing Abscess

Swelling can occur in both a new or old piercing. In the initial stages of healing, redness, swelling and itchy feeling are normal. These tend to reduce with time. In case they do not subside or occur past this initial stage, this may suggest an infection. This should be monitored closely as persistent swelling that occurs along pus, redness around and hurts could be a sign of infection.
With old piercings, swellings could occur if the piercing is subjected to trauma and one side is scarred and hard as a result of formation of scar tissue. To get rid of the swelling and red coloration, apply ice on the piercing. Ensure it is wrapped up and apply it on and off for five minutes until you feel better. You could also try chamomile tea soaks to reduce irritation.

Rejected Belly Button Piercing

In doing a belly button piercing, there is always a chance that the piercing will migrate or will be rejected. This can be very frustrating, not to mention unsightly. Rejection happens when the body doesn’t accept the metal from the ring. The immune system will push out the body piercing and will heal the skin until the piercing no longer sticks. The piercing can migrate to another part of the abdomen. What increases the risk of piercing rejection and what can be done about it?
Symptoms of Belly Button Piercing Rejection
There are some signs you can look out for that can help you know if you are suffering from piercing rejection of belly button. Here are the signs:

  • The skin is getting so thin that you can see the ring just beneath the skin.
  • You have a great deal of skin sensitivity and a continual soreness in the area of the belly button.
  • The pierced holes become bigger in preparation for navel piercing rejection.
  • The ring or bar around your belly button hangs looser than it was when you first had it pierce.
  • There is drainage coming from the belly button holes.
  • You are developing a keloid scar in the area of the piercing.

Belly button piercing rejection can lead to a scar, which is the most worrisome sign. This is the last stage of a migration of the pierced ring out of the body. Because of the chance of scarring, you should take the ring out as soon as you realize your body is rejecting it. It doesn’t always happen as soon as you get the piercing and can take up to three years to reject the ring.
If you develop a very big scar, it can be difficult to get rid of and they fade very slowly. If the scar bothers you, you can seek the advice of a plastic surgeon or dermatologist who can help resolve the scar or lessen its appearance.

However, if the area starts to develop a rash after you start applying the OTC ointment, stop it because it could be an allergic reaction. Tragus Piercing Pain Level: Infection, Does it Hurt, Vertical, Surface, Aftercare, Healing Time, Jewelry

Apart from the inspiration from numerus celebrities who have it, the craze on tragus piercing is trending now than ever. However, there are a number of good reasons for getting your tragus pierced. This is because it is more pleasing, super easy and less painful. Get insights on tragus piercing pain level, infection aftercare and healing.

What is tragus piercing?

This mode of ear piercing is named after the location of ear that is pierced. Someone can even hide this piercing easily either with her hair or with clothing like scarf if necessary. The small triangle part connecting your face with outer portion of cartilage is known as tragus. It is located in front of ear canal. This portion of ear helps us to hold ear phones and make it fit within.
Anti -tragus ear piercing
Anti-tragus is located on the elevated fold of the ear which is located just opposite the tragus .It is the place where anti tragus is pierced. Though cost and care for both of these variations come close to the same, due to its risky location, it is important to check with the piercer’s portfolio before getting it done. Unlike other piercings, you don’t have lots of places to play around for anti-tragus. Also bear it in mind that, Anti -tragus piercing is widely known for its tough healing process.

  1. Types of tragus piercing

There are two types of tragus piercings which include vertical and surface tragus piercings and are both known as double tragus piercing.

  • vertical tragus piercing

Vertical tragus piercing runs vertically on your tragus from outside to inside and to the outside again. As you are creating 2 channels, it will create a little more pain as opposed to the plain tragus piercing. It is also known as sideburn piercing.

  • surface tragus piercing

This piercing is very similar to the vertical tragus piercing except the fact that it traverses through the flesh of cartilage without making any hole. About the pain level, it’s needless to say that it is the most painful than all other piercings.

  1. tragus piercing: gun vs. needle

A major question that is repeatedly asked in all forums is about the tragus piercing pain level of piercing using gun Vs. Needle. To be truthful, gun shots are less painful than the needle. But most of the professional piercers argue that Guns are not suitable and should not be used even for your earlobe.
They add on that gun for piercing any body part is not good, as it poses high infection risks. In case of needles, it is very easy to sterilize so the healing process will be smooth and speedy. If you want to use guns to avoid the minute of pain, you will be needed to endure the pain that lasts for 2 months. Above all, some people claim that pain level of tragus piercing is the same in both Gun and Needle.

  1. tragus piercing step by step process

This process of Tragus piercing is quite different from many of the other piercings. It involves the following steps:
Step 1:
To get the tragus or anti tragus piercing, you should lay your back so that the piercer can easily access and work at the piercing site.
Step 2:
Since tragus has thick cartilage, the piercer may need to apply more pressure than all other piercing while making a puncture. In order to avoid the accidental damages to ear, the piercer will place a cork inside the ear canal.
Step 3:
A straight or curved needle will be pushed through the skin (outside to inside). Once the necessary hole is made, the initial jewelry most preferably a barbell will be added to the piercing.
Step 4:
This Jewelry should not be changed until the tragus piercing completely heals.
Once you get your tragus pierced, you might expect a slight bleeding and a bearable tragus piercing pain for few minutes. The bleeding may be accompanied by Swelling around the pierced area. However, few people reported a Jaw pain soon after piercing. Under normal circumstances, it could even last for 2 to 3 days.
Normally, this jaw pain is a soar triggered by tragus piercing which gives a feel as if the jaw hurts. This pain will worsen each and every time you smile. The pain will go away on its own within few days. However, if it lasts beyond 3 days then it is a sign that all is not going well. Check with your piercer and treat the infection before it gets worse.

Tragus Piercing Pain Level

If you compare tragus pain when piercing to pain from other piercings, tragus piercings has very few nerve endings. That does not mean you will not feel any pain in tragus piercing. As the needle breaks the skin, there will be a little discomfort like pain of a sharp pinch or cut. Usually this pain is bearable and last up to few minutes.
However, if you are considering a piercing on your tragus, it is worthwhile knowing more about tragus piercing pain level. This is due to the fact that different people can tolerate different magnitudes of pain. Of course, you do not expect to miss some level of discomfort completely.  It will be there, but to very bearable levels.
